This book is "The Holy Bible", containing The Old Testament and the New; Translated out of the Original Tongues; And with the Former Translations Diligently Compared and Revised, by His Majesty's Special Command. Appointed to be read in Churches. Printed for George E. Eyre and Andrew Spottiswoode, Printers to the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty. Sold by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown. Paternoster Row 1814. It comes with original matching red leather, which has closure strap to the top of the box, and the name of the first ever owner inscribed in blindstamped/tooled gilt lettering (John Whitehead 1815). The bible itself is also bound in red leather, it has gilt line decoration to the edges of boards, spine, and inner board edges. The page fore edges are also decorated in gilt when the book is closed (see pics). Containing approx 800 pages, with small dimensions to the bible of 5" x 2.7" x 1.3" thick, dimensions to the box of 5.2" x 3" x 1.5" thick, and the combined weight of both is approx 375g uinpacked.

The condition of the bible is good, with the only real blemish being a few faint scratches to the binding, and it is also slightly faded in places (see pics). Otherwise it is in very good solid order, with no splitting or weakness to inner or outer hinges. The contents are generally very clean and bright throughout with only a few random minor handling marks here and there, and the text block is firm and secure with no missing, detached or loose pages. The box is in excellent order with no damage or loss, and only blemish is again a few faint scratches.
